Why Dizziness Happens in Perimenopause (And How to Feel Grounded Again)

Have you ever stood up and suddenly felt the room shift beneath you?

Or started walking and felt strangely floaty — like you weren’t fully in your body?

Even sitting still, you might notice a wave of lightheadedness, disconnection, or that odd sensation of watching your own life from the outside.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Many women experience dizziness in perimenopause — and while it can feel scary, there are clear reasons behind it. More importantly, there are natural ways to steady yourself and feel rooted again.

Why Do So Many Women Feel Dizzy in Perimenopause?

There isn’t just one reason. Dizziness can be physical, energetic, or even spiritual. Here are the six big ones I want you to know about:

1. Hormonal Shifts + Blood Pressure Drops

Estrogen doesn’t just affect your cycle — it helps regulate blood vessels and fluid balance. When levels swing (as they often do in perimenopause), blood pressure can suddenly dip. That drop confuses your inner ear, which controls balance, leading to that spinning-room feeling when you stand up too quickly.

2. Blood Sugar Crashes

Skipping meals, living on coffee, or eating erratically causes sharp blood sugar spikes — and then crashes. The brain runs on steady fuel, and when it doesn’t get it, you might feel lightheaded, shaky, foggy, or floaty.

3. Poor Circulation + Low Blood Flow to the Brain

Cold weather, stress, or a diet heavy in raw foods (like smoothies, salads, or cold snacks) can slow circulation for some body types. Cold constricts vessels and weakens digestion, which means less blood reaches the brain — leaving you dizzy, spaced out, or unsteady.

4. Weak Digestive Fire + Poor Nutrient Absorption

According to Ayurveda, digestive fire (Agni) naturally weakens after 40. When it’s low, nutrients aren’t absorbed efficiently, even from healthy foods. The result? Your brain, blood, and nervous system may be undernourished, triggering fatigue, fog, and dizziness.

5. Nervous System Overload

Modern life keeps us in constant “go mode.” When your body is locked in low-grade fight-or-flight, energy rises upward and outward — instead of grounding in your center. That leaves you feeling floaty, anxious, or disconnected, even when you’re perfectly still.

6. Disconnection From Your Soul

Not all dizziness stems purely from physical causes. Sometimes it’s a whisper from within: “This isn’t aligned. You’re not on your true path.” Or a combination of physical and spiritual causes.

Our duality in this world need not be forgotten, as we’re both physical and spiritual creatures and therefore a healthy balance needs to be achieved in both.

Midlife often brings a reckoning, especially for women who’ve spent years serving everyone else. Ignored discontent can often show up as dizziness and may arise suddenly without any apparent reason — a literal disembodiment, like your energy is hovering above your life instead of rooted in it.

My Own Dizzy Wake-Up Call

Not just dizzy from hunger or fatigue — but feeling like I was walking through life a few inches above my own body.

And yes, sometimes it was physical.

But occasionally? It was because I was going against myself.

Saying yes when I meant no. Doing what was expected, not what was aligned.

And when I finally listened — when I started trusting my body, my soul, and the natural rhythms I had ignored — I landed. I came back home to myself.

And that’s what I want for you.

So What Can You Do?

Here are 5 simple ways to reconnect with your center — starting today

1. Eat Warm, Grounding Food First Thing

Skip the smoothies and cold yogurt bowls.

Start your day with something warm — like stewed fruit, oats with ghee, or a savory broth. Add healthy fat and protein to stabilize blood sugar and fuel your brain.

2. Support Hydration + Blood Pressure

Drink warm water with a pinch of sea salt or lemon.

This gently supports blood pressure and electrolyte balance — without the crash of caffeine.

3. Activate Your Body’s Balance Points

Use gentle acupressure (press firmly in circular motion) and do it on both sides of your body,

  1. PC6 (inner wrist) for calming nausea and grounding the nervous system.

2. ST36 (below the knee) to boost digestion and blood flow.

3. GB20 (base of skull) to improve circulation to the brain.

4. Ground Through Breath

Sit or stand with both feet flat.

Inhale for 4… exhale for 6.

Longer exhales tell your body: “We’re safe. We’re here.”

5. Listen to Your’s Body’s Deeper Signal

It’s good to ask yourself these questions:

  1. Is this physical… or is it something deeper?

  2. Where am I forcing or pushing instead of flowing?

  3. What part of me is asking to be seen, heard, or honored?

You might be surprised by the clarity that comes when you simply ask the question.
